VICTORY! ¡VICTORIA PARA LAS PROMOTORAS!

This weekend, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the CALCASA-sponsored Assembly Bill 547, authored by Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez (D – San Diego).  AB 547 will finally enable janitorial workers who are survivors of rape on the night shift to conduct their own sexual violence prevention trainings.  This worker-centered, survivor-centered law is several years in the making, and the promotoras, a group of janitors and survivors who have been trained on the long-term effects of sexual trauma and the intersection of discrimination, oppression, and sexual violence to become peer counselors, have been leading a movement that will become a model for other industries in California to prevent violence against our most vulnerable workers.
Thank you to Governor Newsom, Assemblymember Gonzalez, and our co-sponsoring partners at SEIU-USWW for all of their work in making AB 547 the law in California.  CALCASA is proud to stand in solidarity with our janitorial worker sisters and brothers to declare ¡YA BASTA!
