THEY CAN ACTUALLY PLAY A REALLY POWERFUL ROLE, BECAUSE THEY HAVE TRUST IN NOISE THOSE THAT MAY BE EXPERIENCING VIOLENCE AND THEY'RE AFFECTED RIGHT? WE THINK ABOUT SURVIVORS AND WHO IS IN THE CIRCLE. WHO KNOWS ABOUT WHAT THEY'RE EXPERIENCING AND WE KNOW FRIENDS, FAMILIES AND NEIGHBORS ARE PEKTED BUT IT HELPS MAINTAIN SOCIAL NORMS HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE HEARD RIM BLAMING COMING FROM FAMILY MEMBERS WHO DON'T UNDERSTAND, OR SEE THEY'RE GOING TO X OUT THAT PERSON, OH, YOU DON'T WANT TO LEAVE THEM, OR YOU'RE IN THE GOING LEAVE THEM. AND I'M IN THE GOING TO DEAL WITH YOU. SO THESE NUANCES OF WHO IS IN YOUR GROUP AND COMMUNITY? HOW CAN THESE PEOPLE MAKE CHANGE? WHAT ARE THE LIMITS? I'VE SEEN A LITTLE BIT OF A SHIFT IN THE MOVEMENT. THERE STILL SORT OF ONE-TIME PRESENTATIONS RIGHT? GOING INTO THE COMMUNITY AND SPEAKING AT THEM. RIGHT? LET ME, I'M THE EXPERT. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT'S HAPPENING IN YOUR COMMUNITY. THIS IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT. RIGHT? CAPACITY IS AN ISSUE. SO. WE WANT TO INCREASE DOSAGE. IT IS ABOUT QUALITY OVER QUANTITY ACCESSIBILITY IS CURRENTLY, YOU KNOW WE CAN'T ALWAYS GET TO THOSE THAT WE NEED TO GET TO BY THE CURRENT RESPONSE THAT WE HAVE. AND OFTEN, IT HAPPENS AFTER THE FACT RIGHT? SOMETHING HAPPENED AT A SCHOOL OR SOMETHING HAPPENED INTO A COMMUNITY. AND SO, THEY INVITE US, CENTERS IN TO SAY COME, TALK TO US ABOUT IT. WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THIS, DO YOU HAVE IDEAS? AND OFTEN, HAVING THAT RESPONSE CAUSES HARM SO WE'RE DOING SECONDARY PREVENTION SO THIS MODEL FOCUSES ON PRIMARY PREVENTION. COMMUNITY LIFE THIS, IS ANOTHER REFRAME WITH THE MODEL. INSTEAD OF IT BEING LIKE THIS IS YOUR ISSUE BECAUSE YOU'RE EXPERIENCING THIS. IT'S LOOKING AT THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE THIS, OUR ISSUE. HOW CAN WE SUPPORT OURSELVES? OUR KIDS? OUR FRIENDS? OUR NEIGHBORS ARE TAKING THIS SERIOUSLY AND TACKLING WHAT WE THINK ARE IMPORTANT ISSUES HAPPENING THE COMMUNITY THIS, IS ALSO REAL PREVENTION F WE'RE TALKING TO KIDDOS AND ADULTS EARLY ON, WE'RE ABLE TO PREVENT VIOLENCE PRIOR TO IT OCCURRING AND, THE CONNECTION TO OTHER PRIORITIES AND SO, REALLY EARLY ON WHEN I STARTED AS A PREVENTIONIST IT WAS A STRUGGLE AN FELT LIKE I'M WORRIED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. HOW DOES THIS INTERSECT WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE? HOW DO RACE ISSUES? HOW DOES GANG VIOLENCE? I THINK IT'S NOT ABOUT HAVING COMPETING ISSUES RIGHT? IT'S SAYING INTERSECTIONALITIES OF SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES SO YOU CAN WORK TO COMBAT THOSE THINGS WITHIN THIS MODEL. SO OUR VISION FORECLOSE TO HOME REALLY IS MOVING FROM SMALL NETWORKS, SO WE WANT TO DO MORE WITH FOLKS THAT WE ALREADY KNOW. HAD HOW DO WE GET INTO CHURCHES AND SOCIAL CLUBS HAPPENING? LIKE THE FRIDAY NIGHT GET TOGETHERS ARE HAPPENING INFORMALLY IN THE COMMUNITY? HOW DO WE GET TO PEOPLE LIKE OUR CENTERS OR SHELTERS? OR DOCTOR OFFICES? OR SCHOOLS? AND HOW DO WE MAKE POLICY CHANGE? IT'S STARTING SMALL BUT GROWING BIGGER BECAUSE WE'D LIKE TO SEE A CHANGE IN THESE SORT OF, LARGER AREAS. CLOSE TO HOME IS ROOTED IN THESE PRINCIPLES AND I WAS NEVER THEORETICAL THINKER. I WANTED PEOPLE TO TELL ME YOU DO 1, 2, AN THREE. I WASN'T WORRIED POINT THEORY BEHIND IT. AND WHAT I LEARNED IS THAT IN ORDER TO DO THIS MODEL SUCCESSFULLY, YOU HAVE TO ROOT IN THEORY INTO THE WHY WE'RE DOING THIS SO THESE PRINCIPLES KEEPING THESE IN MIND CARRIES THIS WORK ALONG. GOING BACK TO THIS PRINCIPLE OF WELL, WHY? MAYBE THAT COMMUNITY IS TIRED AND MAYBE I IMMEDIATE TO HAVE A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO THAT. THINKING ABOUT YOUR FEARS COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY. IDEA OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SO IT IS ENGAGING YOUTH, ADULTS, COMMUNITY MEMBERS WE'RE NOT COMING IN TALKING TO ONE POPULATION. WE WANT TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE IN THAT COMMUNITY. PATIENTS AN PERSISTENCE, THOSE OF US THIS THE ROOM ARE PREVENTIONISTS HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU JUST GOTTEN TIRED BECAUSE YOU HAVE HEARD NO, SO MANY TIMES? OR YOU'RE TRYING TO COME IN AND RUN A PROGRAM. IT'S NOT WORKING OUT? OR, THE SCHOOL, OR COMMUNITY DOESN'T WANT YOU IN THERE? AND BOTTOM LEFT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS ABOUT SAME-SEX RELATIONSHIPS IF YOU LOOK AT DRAWING NONE OF THIS IS OUTWARDLY SPECIFIC SAYING WE WANT LESS SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN THE COMMUNITY AND LESS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE COMMUNITY. IT'S ABOUT THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW. AND HOW DOES THIS RELATE? SO TAKING THIS VISION HELPED US SEE IMMEDIATELY WHERE PRIORITIES WERE. AND SO IT HELPED US ENGAGE WITH THEM IN A DIFFERENT WAY. STATEWIDE THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING. COUNTY WIDE THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING. THEY CAN SAY THIS IS HAPPENING AND YOU HAVE REALTIME DATA. NOT TO SAY THOSE AREN'T SUPER HELPFUL. IT'S ABOUT ENGAGING COMMUNITIES AND I THINK IT'S ABOUT CHECKING YOUR PRIVILEGE RIGHT? WHEN I WORKED WITH A DIFFERENT COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION TYPE OF PROGRAM WE HAD IT IN A SCHOOL AND LEARNING ABOUT THINGS LIKE WALKABILITY AND SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH THE STAFF WOULD DO THEIR OWN ELEMENTARY LEVEL LESSONS ON THIS TOPIC SO THAT IS A NICE WAY TO HAVE CHILD CARE AND HAVE YOUNG PEOPLE ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN LEARNING TOO. I SEE A QUESTION. HOW DID YOUR ORGANIZATION MAKE A SHIFT FROM WORKING IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES? IT GOES BACK TO MEETING THE COMMUNITY WHERE THEY'RE AT. IN SCHOOLS, WE THOUGHT THIS IS GREAT AND THAT IS NOT WHERE COMMUNITY MEMBERS WERE CONVENING THEY WERE CONVENING IN A COFFEE SHOP OR CONVENING IN A COMMUNITY CENTER AN TAKING CLASSES SO WE MET THEM THERE AND IT'S MORE ACCESSIBLE AN NOT AS SCARY.
