Description

Research shows that victim advocates play a critical role in connecting immigrant survivors of sexual and domestic violence with the services, legal remedies, and community support they need to heal, achieve safety, and rebuild secure lives for themselves and their children. When advocates are equipped with accurate, up-to-date legal information and feel confident in their skills, they can meet the evolving needs of immigrant survivors, especially in changing policy environments.

In Part 2 of this series, participants will learn how to use NIWAP’s interactive public benefits map to help survivors and their children access the full range of benefits and services they are legally eligible for. The session will also highlight creative advocacy strategies and demonstrate how protection orders and civil/family court remedies, used effectively since the 1980s, remain powerful tools for advancing safety and justice for immigrant survivors today.

This training is designed specifically for state coalition leadership and staff and will serve as an introduction to the tools, training, and tailored technical assistance NIWAP provides to support coalitions and their member programs in meeting the evolving needs of immigrant survivors.
