CALCASA had an opportunity to participate inthe 2009 National Sexual Assault Conference
in Alexandria, VA. The National SA Conference was hosted by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape
) and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center
) and had about 600 participants in attendance. The Conference featured workshops related to Sexual Assault in the Military, Working with Farm Working and Immigrant Communities, Engaging Men to Prevent Sexual Violence on Campuses, Violence and the Homeless Community, Sexual Violence Prevention and the Promotion of Healthy Relationships in the LGBTIQQ Communities, Working with Survivors with Mental Illness, and Providing Culturally and Linguistically appropriate services to monolingual Spanish-Speaking and Deaf-Mute Communities.
There were also about 13 resource tables, including CALCASA’s, with valuable information for advocates. Below is a list of some of the resources provided during the 2009 National Sexual Assault Conference as well as contact information for many:

We also had the pleasure of hearing from keynote speakers such as Dolores Huerta
, founder of the Dolores Huerta Foundation
, Loretta J. Ross
, National Coordinator of the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective
, and Laura van Dernoot Lipsky, author of Trauma Stewardship
. They were all great and motivating speakers!
CALCASA had a great time, and were excited to be a part of, the 2009 National SA Conference. CALCASA is also looking forward to hosting the 2010 National Sexual Assault Conference in Los Angeles, CA on September 1 – 3, 2010. Please keep an aye out for more information!
