Web 2.O to Advance the Movement to End Sexual Violence

Last week I was joined by my colleagues Casey Keene of VAWnet, Jennifer Marouf of the National Sexual Violence Resource Center and CALCASA’s Chad Sniffen to give a few workshops about online technology at the National Sexual Assault Conference in Alexandria, VA.

Over the course of two workshops we explored how to use wikis (such as the Prevention Connection Wiki), social networking like Facebook, microblogging like Twitter, social bookmarks, and online learning technology (see the list of online learning tools at VAWnet).
These online technologies can build stronger networks and support the generation of new ideas and materials. While the sexual violence field has done an excellent job articulating the concerns about safety risk posed by technology, we have not explored sufficiently how technology can be a useful to to aid in our work.
In fact, many people were tweeting about the conference sharing their highlights and ideas.  One person, @gretchenmarie5 ,  tweeted “David Lee, Casey Keene, Jennifer Marouf- tools to enhance online learning – great workshop! Should bring them back next year!”
