Today officially marks the beginning of Sexual Assault Awareness Month! Every year, we have the opportunity to raise awareness of our work to end sexual violence, collaborate with local, state, and national partners, and promote events, research, and our advocacy efforts.
For this year’s theme and toolkit, we are focused on budget advocacy because we know that FUNDING MATTERS. California rape crisis centers are notoriously underfunded and CALCASA is dedicated to exploring new and creative funding streams to support the critical work of centers throughout the state. For years, the California General Fund has only allocated $45,000 to rape crisis centers – this equates to just $1.48 per survivor served in 2013. Knowing this, and the increased demand that centers are facing, we are ready to strategize and mobilize to make funding a priority!
In addition to the SAAM Toolkit, CALCASA has updated our funding infographic for your use with your local electeds, community partners, and potential funders.
CALCASA looks forward to promoting all your events on social media! Follow us on Twitter and Facebook and join the conversation with #SAAM, #FundingMatters, and #CAsaysNOMORE. Additionally, we will be featuring guest bloggers all month long. If your organization is interested in contributing to a guest blog, please contact Shaina Brown.
