500 people committed to ending sexual violence gathered at CALCASA’s 2017 Statewide Conference. The theme of the conference, Transformative Conversations: Think Differently to End Sexual Assault, was embodied by the keynote speakers on Wednesday morning. Beckie Masaki, Co-Founder of the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence, asked everyone to “intentionally open up the center”  for those groups and voices who have been left out. M.L. Daniel, Program Manager at FaithTrust Institute invited the audience to see each other in “all [our] fullness.”
Today, Thursday, August 10, at the opening plenary CALCASA will hear from Alejandra Valles the Chief of staff & Secretary-Treasurer of SEIU United Service WorkersWest,  Mia Mingus Community Organizer with Bay Area Transformative Justice Collective, and Krian Waqar and Hawa Adam from Muslim Girls Making Change. See our program for more information on the day’s events and information on our key note speakers.
