On September 10, 2019 CALCASA joined an amicus brief supporting one of a growing number of lawsuits aimed at blocking implementation of the administration’s harmful public charge rule.
UPDATE A federal court has blocked implementation of DHS’s public charge regulation preventing it from taking effect on October 15. This rule would have made it much more challenging for immigrations who rely on government benefit programs, such as food stamps and subsidized housing, to obtain permanent legal status. The order, issued by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York in State of New York v. Department of Homeland Security and Make the Road New York v. Cuccinelli.
CALCASA will continue to coordinate with our state and national partners to advocate for immigrant communities impacted by these harmful regulations. We will continue to assert the dignity of all people and advance the safety and health of immigrant survivors.
