Yesterday, Governor Newsom released his May Revise, which attempted to meet the impossible task of budgeting for a $54 billion deficit during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Partnership and CALCASA responded with a statement that addressed each of our budget requests. We’ve included the key points below:

  • There was no allocation for sexual and domestic violence prevention. We will keep voicing the need for $15 million in ongoing funding in this area.
  • Rape Crisis Center funding was not restored to previous levels. Our coalitions will continue to advocate for $5 million.
  • The Domestic Violence Assistance Program received level funding at $20.6 million. Not included was our $30 million request for the full range of homelessness services: emergency shelter, transitional housing, and the Domestic Violence Housing First model. We remain committed to this budget request.

Final budget decisions will be made in the coming days and weeks, and it is critical that budget committee members hear from you. Please take two minutes to contact your legislators using our email tool.
