January 19-20, 2023 – In-Person Training: School-Based Restorative Practices

Please join us for our School-Based Restorative Practices training! It will take place at the Hyatt Regency Orange County Hotel, CA Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 10 am to 5 pm PT, and Friday, January 20, 2023, from 9 am to 3 pm PT.

This training is open to all Rape Prevention Education (RPE) grantees, California Rape Crisis Centers, Sexual and Domestic Violence (SD) grantees, and other organizations committed to preventing sexual violence.

This training will examine how restorative justice practices can change the conditions that allow violence to happen by establishing a positive climate, healthy relationships, and productive approaches to conflict. These practices include supporting teachers and school staff with behavior and conflict intervention, helping schools create policies that support restoration and education, and employing approaches that minimize overly punitive measures against marginalized students.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Participants will describe the key tenets of restorative justice, its practices in schools, and coaching/conferencing as responses to incidents of harm.
  • Participants will identify intersections between restorative justice and other anti-oppression work in order to create short- and long-term action steps for integrating restorative practices into their programs.
  • Participants will practice the skills of circle design and facilitation to create community-building circles that build, strengthen and maintain relationships while also working to prevent incidents of harm.
