ValorUS® (VALOR) and California’s Chapter of the Association for the Treatment & Prevention of Sexual Abuse (CalATSA) partnership is growing! We will be holding our annual meetings simultaneously on August 25, 2026, at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Los Angeles, CA.

VALOR, California’s sexual assault coalition of rape crisis centers, activist networks, and organizations working to increase prevention initiatives and services for survivors, and CalATSA, an organization that prioritizes preventing sexual violence from occurring and recurring by supporting those who work with adults and youth who are at risk of or have sexually harmed others, are building on their existing partnership with these concurrent events.

Prevention is the common language connecting VALOR and CalATSA, providing ways to combine our communities and enhance our work. With a record of collaboration through joint memberships and trainings, our partnership strengthens our shared visions of ending sexual violence by combining our communities and learning from each other.

VALOR and California’s rape crisis centers, advocates, and preventionists can learn from CalATSA members’ work with people who have caused harm, which emphasizes the importance of basing our work in entire communities, not just part of them. Prevention and healing after harm is based in community, but often, those who cause harm are left out of prevention and healing. We not only have to focus on those who have yet to cause harm, but also work with those who have caused harm so it doesn’t continue to happen to create lasting change and healthier, safer communities.

CalATSA and those working with those who have caused harm or at risk of harming others are supported by VALOR’s 46 years of experience in prevention work, supporting survivors, and implementing restorative practice programs at state and national levels provides the experience, stability, and support needed for longevity. Our partnership has also provided insight into the grassroots work VALOR relies on to increase prevention initiatives and community connection with those who have acknowledged the harm that they’ve caused alongside those who are at risk of harming others.

Prevention is possible, and connecting with community cultures and values is at the heart of our work.  VALOR and CalATSA’s combined community is stronger because our members can come together, share knowledge, and strengthen their support systems while working on key initiatives to generate healthier, safer communities and the societal change needed to prevent sexual violence.
