This web conference session will include an overview of victim/survivor rights and notice requirements for campus law officers who respond to incidents of gender-based violence. California victim rights requirements, notification mandates and best practices will be explored. Campus law enforcement will be connected with local resources and advocacy for survivors. Participants will learn about the history, development, and purpose of the victim rights laws. Participants will also explore and practice ways of introducing and fulfilling notice and information distribution to victims/survivors with a trauma-informed approach.

  • Identify the various notice and information requirements under California law for survivors
  • Understand the history and purpose behind California victim rights laws
  • Describe best practices in distributing information to survivors from a trauma-informed approach
  • Identify the local rape crisis partners and advocates for survivors
