Description

Supporting neurodivergent college students who have experienced sexual assault is essential to ensuring equitable, trauma-informed care and fair institutional processes. Join VALOR as we review how trauma affects the brain and explore why responses may look different in neurodivergent individuals. Participants will learn how communication differences, sensory sensitivities, and executive functioning challenges can influence disclosure, forensic exams, and Title IX investigations. The session will also outline best practices for providing supportive, bias-aware responses throughout reporting, investigation, and ongoing therapy or academic accommodations.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how trauma impacts the brain and describe how these effects may present differently in neurodivergent students
  • Identify common communication differences and trauma responses that may influence disclosure, forensic exams, and Title IX investigations
  • Apply trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming strategies when responding to disclosures and supporting students through institutional processes
