Objectives:

  • Learn about the experiences of immigrant workers certified as Promotores and how the program strengthened their leadership in sexual harassment prevention.
  • Understand the challenges faced by workers in the non-union janitorial industry, including gender-based violence, wage theft, and other labor rights violations.
  • Identify strategies for engaging men as allies in preventing violence and promoting safer, more respectful, and more equitable workplaces.

Description:

The Maintenance Cooperation Trust Fund (MCTF) will present its Promotores Program, in which 25 men from the janitorial industry were certified by the East Los Angeles Women's Center to promote sexual violence prevention and community leadership. Through personal testimonies and interactive discussion, participants will learn about their experiences as immigrant workers, the challenges of the non-union janitorial industry, and the role men can play as allies in preventing gender-based violence. This workshop encourages participants to reflect on strategies for building safer, more equitable, and more inclusive workplaces while highlighting the importance of collective action and community engagement.
