Description

Engaging college students in violence prevention can take many forms. Join VALOR for a web conference to explore how interactive, game-based tools can create additional entry points for learning, reflection, and skill-building.

Developed as a project of the University of Southern California (USC), Game Mode offers a practical example of how prevention content can be translated into engaging, skill-building experiences.  Participants will learn how game-based learning can support participation, deepen understanding, and reinforce key prevention concepts.

The session will share insights from implementation, including successes and challenges. Participants will also experience a brief demonstration of an interactive prevention game and reflect on how content, technology, and engagement strategies come together in practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how game-based learning principles can enhance student engagement and participation in campus violence prevention efforts
  • Identify key components of effective interactive prevention tools that support learning, retention, and skill-building among college students
  • Examine the process of designing an interactive prevention game and analyze key elements observed during the demo to understand how content, technology, and engagement strategies align
  • Evaluate the benefits and limitations of using interactive games in violence prevention programming, including implementation challenges and opportunities for improvement
